OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – The Oil City Police Department released information on a one-vehicle rollover accident that occurred around 10:20 a.m. on December 31, at the intersection of Gay Street and Clearfield Street, in Oil City, Venango County.

According to police, the accident involved a 2002 Chevy Tracker owned by Thomas and Bonnie Rodgers and driven by their son-in-law, Michael Yashinski, of Oil City.

Yashinski stated that he pulled the vehicle away from the curb in front of his residence on Gay Street, and when he approached a stop sign just feet away, he then noticed there were no brakes on the vehicle, police say.

Yashinski continued to travel downhill on Gay Street until he struck the guide rails at the bottom of the hill on Clearfield Street, according to police.

The vehicle broke through the guide railing and went airborne for approximately 25′ before making impact with the ground. The vehicle then rolled, causing severe damage to it.

Yashinski was using a seat belt and self extricated himself. He was transported to UPMC Northwest Hospital for minor injuries.

The Oil City Police were assisted on the scene by Oil City Fire/Rescue; Community Ambulance; and Minich’s Towing Service.

The above information was released to exploreVenango.com on January 2, 2014.
